Man, this movie really is a must watch for anyone and everyone. From working in the fields to being an Austronaut. With 11 rejections from NASA he persevere and kept accumulating achievements and getting the necessary certifications to be better qualified to get accepted.
A really good story told with the main character Jose Hernanadez being portrayed by Michael Pena. Where as a young boy he helped his family work in the fields and at that young age he realized he wanted to be an astronaut, his father despite his own goal of wanting to build a house back home and his own circumstances still validated his sons dream and goal. Despite telling his son it would be hard, he encouraged him to work hard and one day he would achieve it.
Throughout his adult life battling odds that were stacked up against him, he persevered and kept trying. Even when life seemed to drag him down, you see that it is not what happens to us that define us and our circumstances. It is how we respond and react to them. His wife and family being supportive of their husband and father was not easy and its portrayed perfectly in this film.
Going through difficult times and being able to handle stress, bad days, delayed dreams is something we see here. What matters is that the family is a unit and moves together to overcome the challendges they faced. Eventually reaching and acomplishing milestones in their own respective goals and dreams. No matter how long it might take, if you never give up. Eventually you will reach your goals.
Even if you come at this story line with a negative attitude and pesimism, you cant deny that the only way to fail is if you stop trying. As long as you have breath in you and you wake up each morning. You can do something to reach your goals. It is a very easy thing to say or think about but its an insanely hard thing to put to practice when things go wrong and you are not in the best circumstances during that time.
Time will keep passing us by no matter what we decide, we should do our best to accomplish our goals no matter how big or small they might be. It is a cliche movie overall, if you follow some news about space you might have heard of Jose Hernandez before, but it is displayed beautifully in this movie. We might not know why we are here on earth and we know we have such a short time to experience what life has to offer. But as human beings we are bound to want to find our purpose.
I think this is one of the greatest gifts we could have been given. The thirst for knowledge and explore the unknown.
